Service Provided: The LEAD+ Grassroots Venture Facility co-develops community-owned enterprises in Bhutan by providing micro-equity investment, technical support, and market access to transform grassroots potential into sustainable businesses.

The LEAD+ Grassroots Venture Facility is an impact-driven enterprise incubation platform supporting underserved community-based businesses in Bhutan. Founded by LEAD+, a Bhutanese development consultancy with over two decades of experience in civil society, local governance, and sustainable livelihoods, the Facility addresses a persistent gap: grassroots groups with real potential but no pathway into formal financing or structured business support. Rather than providing one-time grants, the Facility aims to co-develop viable businesses alongside community groups, providing early-stage micro-equity investment, technical assistance, and market access support. Community groups retain majority ownership and benefit directly from enterprise success.

The Facility is currently investing in and piloting two ventures. The first is a women-led circular economy enterprise in Central and Eastern Bhutan, where grassroots recycling groups are converting plastic waste and recycled materials into premium handwoven textile products for domestic and regional markets, combining traditional weaving skills with environmental impact. The second is a youth-led community-based tourism initiative, supporting young people to design and deliver authentic cultural experiences, including traditional hot stone baths and local heritage activities, targeting sustainable tourism markets.
