Tshering Dorji is the Chairman of the Aggregator Network of Chhukha, a registered farmer cooperative under DAMC with 18 members from over 20 villages. He began his entrepreneurial journey in 2020 after completing the Basic Entrepreneurship Course (BEC) conducted by the Chhukha Dzongkhag Economic Development Sector.

With years of experience in aggregating and trading raw agricultural produce, he identified the critical need for village level processing to reduce post harvest losses and increase returns for rural farmers. His cooperative frequently discusses the importance of adding value before sending products to major markets like Thimphu.

He now proposes to establish a food processing unit in Dungna Gewog, targeting ginger, buckwheat, millet, mustard, chili, pumpkin, and honey. This enterprise aims to:

  • Utilize local raw materials and the underused packaging house in Dungna,
  • Create rural employment, and
  • Strengthen local supply chains.

Through this initiative, he seeks to build a sustainable rural enterprise that uplifts communities and supports Bhutan’s goal of self-reliant agriculture.
