Community-Based Weaving Empowerment Project is a social enterprise initiative by SABAH Bhutan that empowers women home-based workers through weaving and textile production while safeguarding Bhutanese cultural heritage. The project creates sustainable livelihoods for over 150 weavers by enhancing product quality, strengthening market access, and increasing income generation.

Operating on a home-based production model, the initiative enables women to balance household responsibilities with income-earning opportunities, fostering economic empowerment without requiring relocation. The project produces traditional textiles such as kira and gho, alongside home décor, bags, and accessories that blend Bhutanese craftsmanship with contemporary market trends.

Through organized production, quality control, and branding under the SABAH label, the project addresses challenges of limited market access, irregular income, and lack of professional visibility faced by artisans. Products are marketed via SABAH outlets, exhibitions, trade fairs, tourism linkages, and digital platforms, with revenues reinvested into training, raw materials, and product development.

By combining social impact with sustainable business practices, the project strengthens rural livelihoods, preserves Bhutanese weaving traditions, and positions authentic handmade textiles as competitive alternatives to imports.
