Deki wins Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Deki Wangmo, one of Loden's entrepreneurs, wins the Women Entrepreneur of the year 2011 award in a global competition conducted by Prince Charles's Youth Business International (YBI). YBI is a UK based organisation under the presidency of the Prince of Wales supporting a network of entrepreneurial programmes across the globe.
The Loden Entrepreneurship Programme run by the Loden Foundation joined the network in 2010.
We are very happy to announce that one of the nominees of Loden Entrepreneur, Deki Wangmo, who runs a tyre re-trading and repair shop in Thimphu, has been declared winner for the "Women Entrepreneur of the year 2011" award category. She won the award for her successful and pioneering business with amazing annual turnover. Gerard Tardy, the LEP director said: "This will be a great encouragement for her and all Loden entrepreneurs."
The competition, now in its sixth year, is about promoting successful young entrepreneurs and demonstrating the impact small businesses can have on local communities, mainly through creating jobs and encouraging innovation. (http://awards.youthbusiness.org/the-awards).
Deki is from from Lhuntse, eastern Bhutan. She started her career as office assistant in an automobile shop. Her business currently has 8 full time staffs who are mostly illiterate and recovering alcoholics. She plans to expand her business all across Bhutan in future. She feels lucky to have a caring husband who helps her in running her business on daily basis. Deki says, "It's difficult to describe how I feel. I am just excited by the news.".
Deki, will be receiving the award in November 2011 in London, where she will be invited with all expenses paid and may also be able to meet the Prince of Wales.
