Loden joins hands with local hotel Yu-gharling to raise funds for the fire victims in Bumthang
Around 2am on 26 November 2010, a tragic fire engulfed half of the town in Chamkhar, Bumthang. One of Loden's director Dr Karma Phuntsho and his friends, who were in Chamkhar, joined the local people to fight the fire, which has destroyed about 58 homes and killed two persons. The cause of the fire is not known.Later that day, the Loden Foundation joined hands with Yu-gharling, a local resort, to raise funds from the guests staying in the resort to help the victims of the fire. Through the initiative of Loden's director, the Loden Foundation and Yu-gharling raised about Nu.110000 (Nu.52840+£10+€270+US$938) including a contribution of Nu.24850 from the resort and its employees. The fund, composed of several currencies and traveller's cheques, was officially handed to Dasho Tshewang Jurmin, the National Councillor from Bumthang and volunteer for the Loden Foundation. The fund was submitted by him to the welfare fund managed by His Majesty's office, which will co-ordinate the relief works and rebuilding of homes for the victims.
"On behalf of the victims of the fire, the Loden Foundation would like to thank Yu-garling Resort and all contributors", said Dorji Tashi, Loden's co-ordinator. All the contributors will be formally informed by Tshewang Jurmin on the status of the relief work.
